One of the most recent concerns surrounding veterans and mental health was the mass shooting that took place in Maine that killed 18 people. The shooter was a military veteran who reportedly had mental health issues. According to the Department of Defense’s annual suicide report, although rates appear slightly lower than in 2020, suicide rates continue to increase gradually from 2011 to 2022.
